Taekwondo team returns with three medals

Accra, Aug. 6, GNA - The National Taekwondo team has returned home with three medals at the just ended Africa Taekwondo Senior Championships held at Yaounde, Cameroon.

New entrants into the National team, Mohammed Hussein, Fatao Alhassan and Cythia Dotse annexed bronze each in the +63 kgs, +87 kgs, -62 kgs weight categories.


The Coach of the team, Norbert Amefu, speaking to the GNA Sports shortly after arrival commended the players for the effort and to the Ghanaian sporting public for their prayers and support. He said success of the Association which has faced stiff challenges at the official level in the past eight years has only benefitted from the Korean Cup, which is organized and sponsored by the Korean Embassy every year, but there has not been any national competition since the past six years.

Coach Amefu said hopefully government has decided to sponsor the trio to represent Ghana at the World Taekwondo Championship to be held in Denmark under the auspices of WTF.
