World Karate champion arrives

Accra, April 26, GNA - The new Arizona Karate Champion, 22-year old former student of Accra Academy, Jerry Agiri Williams returns home after winning gold medals at the US World Karate championship.

Agiri Williams was invited from his club, the Yin-Yang Martial Arts Academy to participate in three different World Karate championships as a result of his rating at the world karate level.


The tournaments are the Kenjutsuryu Karate Invitational tournament in the Californian City of Commerce-Los Angeles where Williams won two bronze medals, the Ozawa Cup International Karate Championship at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas where he won two silver medals.


Williams rounded up his laurel collection with a gold medal in Maryland during the Shiai Mesa Karate Competition, where the organisers were staggered with Jerry's series of knockouts having no choice but to crown him the new champion for Arizona State.

According to the Media-Co-ordinator for the new champion, Mr Frank Ebo Sagoe, Agiri Williams who arrives today, has decided to dedicate his medals to the President, Mr John Agyekum Kufuor upon his return. On Saturday 24th of April 2004, the event organisers, Top American Martial Art Promoters known as the Te-Kenjutsu Karate and the Kenjutsuryu Karate Federation held a big party for the new champion.


Andrew Bampoe-Parry, the private Manager of the medallist welcomed all martial art funs and the media to welcome the world champion at the airport.
