Persons with disabilities showcase their talents in various sports at 6th edition of ‘Yes I Can Games’

Persons with disabilities from across the country gathered at the Accra Sports Stadium for the 6th edition of the ‘Love and Laughter’ and ‘Yes I Can Games’.

Organised by the Simon Agbotsu Foundation for the Young Disabled (SAFFTYD), the event attracted over one thousand participants, marking it as the largest sporting festival for the disabled in Ghana.

Started in 2018 by Mr. Felix Agbotsu, the annual event aims to bring joy to persons with disabilities while providing them with essential health screenings. Participants showcased their talents in various sports, including wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis, and goal-ball.

The festival not only celebrates their abilities but also serves as a platform to encourage careers in sports among the disabled community.

Among the notable voices at the event was Ben Bortey Adubua, a participant who urged the government to support the foundation for its expansion.

Bridget Nartey expressed her delight in participating and called for the festival to gain national recognition.

Kwasi Kalevi, National Team Coach for the Ghana Wheelchair Basketball Team, emphasized the importance of the event in scouting new talent.

Arnold Maclin B Ossai, the project consultant/consultant for SAFFTYD, commended the high turnout of participants and encouraged others with disabilities to seize opportunities provided by the foundation.

Founder Simon Agbotsu reiterated the foundation's mission to bring smiles to participants' faces and highlighted their commitment to nurturing new talents for national para sports teams. All participants were awarded medals for their achievements.

The ‘Love and Laughter’ and ‘Yes I Can Games’ do not only celebrate sportsmanship but also advocate for inclusivity and empowerment within Ghana's disabled community, inspiring hope and ambition among its members.
