Ahmed Ibrahim is a prominent Ghanaian politician and a member of the Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana, representing the Banda Constituency in the Bono Region on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He has been serving as a Member of Parliament (MP) since January 7, 2009, amassing over 16 years of tenure in office.

On January 24, 2025, he was appointed and sworn in as the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs.

Before his ministerial nomination, he served as the Deputy Minority Chief Whip in the Parliament of Ghana.

Early Life and Education

Ahmed Ibrahim's educational journey began at the University of Ghana, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Philosophy in 2001.

He furthered his education by obtaining a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a specialisation in Finance from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration in 2019.

Career

Before entering politics, Ibrahim was the Chief Executive Officer of Flamingo Publications (Ghana) Limited.

Political Career

Ahmed Ibrahim's political career began in 2009 when he was declared the winner of the 2008 Ghanaian General Elections for his constituency. He was elected into the 5th Parliament of the 4th Republic of Ghana on January 7, 2009.

After completing his first term, Ibrahim opted to run for another term in 2013, successfully defeating his opponent, Joe Danquah, to retain his seat. In 2015, he contested and won the NDC parliamentary primaries for the Banda constituency in the Bono Region.

He secured re-election during the 2016 Ghanaian general elections, achieving 6,167 votes (52.03%) against his opponent, who received 5,660 votes (47.76%).

He was re-elected as a member of parliament for the 9th Parliament and, subsequently, appointed Minister in charge of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (Ghana) by former President John Mahama.
