2nd Lady urges Christians to exhibit Godly attributes

that impact positively on the nation

The Wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Matilda Amissah-Arthur has made a call to members of the Methodist church, and all Christians to exhibit Godly attributes that can positively impact the lives of other people, the society and the nation, at large. Mrs. Amissah-Arthur made the remarks when she graced the Accra Diocese of the Methodist Church of Ghana, 53rd annual synod at the Macedonia Methodist Chapel, Kwashieman Circuit, on the theme "Teaching for effective Christian Formation - A classical Methodist Heritage".

The Second lady intimated that due to the failure of the church to teach and educate members on sound doctrines in the Bible so that they can exhibit maturity, many christians have misplaced their priorities in the faith.

She said christians, to a large extent, should be blamed for the problems of the country because instead of them praying for the country and the authorities, as the bible admonishes, christians rather join unbelievers and blame the authorities for doing the wrong things. The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, Most Reverend Prof Emmanuel Asante, noted that the church's intention is to build people up, both physically and spiritually, through the teaching of the word of God and laid down doctrines in family devotions. He re-echoed the need for the church to put measures in place to take care of people with disabilities in the church and society.

The Bishop of the Accra Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana, Rt. Rev. Titus Awotwi Pratt encouraged the congregation to take actions that are worth emulating by people, especially the younger generation.

The Methodist movement is a group of historically-related denominations of Protestant Christianity which derive their inspiration from the life and teachings of John Wesley. George Whitefield and John's brother Charles Wesley were also significant leaders in the movement. The Methodist Church Ghana is one of the largest and oldest Protestant denominations in Ghana. Its roots can be traced back to the landing of Joseph Dunewell, on January 1st, 1835 in Cape Coast. Other missionaries such as Rev. Thomas Birch Freeman, William West, and other contributed to the growth of the church in the country.

The Accra Diocese has a vision to build a vibrant spirit-filled and spirit-led church for the holistic transformation of society and on a mission to equip the church to minister the gospel to the world through the demonstration of Christian faith and love.
