Rev. Bright Offei hands over the items to CSP William Anaman
Members of the Action Chapel International, Achimota on Friday, December 7 paid a courtesy call on inmates at the Awutu Camp in Kasoa.
The inmates at the Awutu Camp were not left out in the farmers day celebrations as the church donated lots of items to make the holiday a memorable one and to mark the beginning of a new era in their lives.
Led by the resident pastor of Action Chapel International, Rev. Bright Offei, the congregation donated 200 Bibles, toothpaste, sleepers, food and other accessories to the inmates as well as the Prison Guards.
Delivering a sermon - from Genesis 37:5-6, 9 - to stir up the faith of the inmates, Rev. Bright Offei urged them to look beyond the prison walls and be hopeful that God will soon transform their lives. He further encouraged them not to lose hope in God because He would come through for them just as He did for Joseph (in the Bible) who was taken from the Prison to the Palace.
“It doesn’t matter where you are, just follow principles like Joseph. Joseph went through 4 P’s that is the Pit to being Potiphar’s slave, later became a Prisoner before going to the Palace to fulfil his dreams. Forgive yourself and forgive the people who betrayed you. Just behave yourself in the Prison, respect the authorities because they are there to help you, remember not to give up on your dreams because God’s plans for your life will surely come to past,” Rev. Bright Offei told the inmates.
Speaking to the Media after the donation, Rev. Bright Offei said the biblical scripture Matthew 25:35 was the motive for the donation. He said, “We were encouraged to reach out based on this quotation, to fulfil scriptures, put smiles and give hope to the inmates.”
The Reverend acknowledged the Archbishop Dancun Williams for giving them the opportunity to go on the ‘Mission Project’.
According to Chief Superintendent of the Prison (CSP), William Anaman, the Awutu base was set up more than 30 years ago. He explained that “the prison is only for transfer; prisoners are admitted here and are given vocational training whiles at camp.”
CSP William Anaman also revealed that fencing is a major challenge being faced by the prison because some prisoners in the past have fled from camp but were later apprehended by the Prison Guards. He called on corporate bodies to come to their rescue since all efforts to reach government have proven futile.
Prisoners at the Awutu Camp received technical and vocational training such as farming, crops and livestock production, Kente weaving, mason, carpentry, tailoring and many more.
Members of the church spent some time with the inmates and engaged them in fun activities after treating them to good sumptuous food for the day.
