Anglican Bishop voted to council of state

His Lordship, The Reverend Bishop Jacob Kofi Ayeebo, Bishop of Anglican Diocese of Tamale on Wednesday received the nod as the Upper East Region's representative on the Council of State.

Bishop Ayeebo emerged winner with 20 votes whilst his contestants, Mr Clement Gwalinia Abavana ,64-year-old Electrical Engineer got five votes, and Naba Bewong Gelbire , 67-year-old Mines Engineer obtained only one vote, as confirmed by Mr Azu Bosco Anyigire, Deputy Upper East Regional Director of the Electoral Commission.

In his victory message, the Bishop said the victory was for all and gave the assurance that he would contribute his quota to the Better Ghana Agenda and the development of the region and the country as a whole.

The 52-year-old Bishop holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PHD) in Missiology, Masters in Development and Mission Studies and Bachelor of Arts in Theology and Ministry. The institutions he attended included the North West University in South Africa, University of Sheffield in UK, University of Durham in UK, St Nicholas Theology Seminary in Cape Coast and Navrongo Secondary School in the Upper East Region.

Bishop Dr. Ayeebo who is married with four children thanked the Electoral Commission for the relentless work in ensuring that the election was smooth without spoilt ballots.

He also thanked God for guiding the country and seeing it through the last election and assured all of his continuous prayers.

In his remarks, Naba Bewong thanked the house for the confidence reposed in him and congratulated the Bishop on his victory. He asked all to contribute in diverse ways for the growth of the country.

Mr Abavana also congratulated the Bishop and acknowledged that the elections formed part of efforts to deepen the country's democracy and praised the manner the Council of State elections in the Region had been conducted.
