Kumasi, Nov. 24, GNA - Reverend Father Barry Thorley, Archdeaconry of the Anglican Diocese of Nkawie in Kumasi, has charged men of God not to use their positions to exploit the poor in the society but rather help to liberate them. He said such acts by some men of God would deepen the woes of the needy, which does not augur well for the society. Reverend Thorley was speaking in Kumasi on Sunday at the ordination service of five priests and a deacon. The newly ordained priests were Reverends Simon Pius Frimpong, Kenneth Korsah, John Danso Brefo, Ishmael Lartey, Prince Osei Yeboah and the Deacon, Bernard Aboagye.
In a sermon titled "Creating hope for the needy", the Anglican priest referred them to the purpose of Jesus Christ, who fed, healed and made life comfortable for the poor, and encouraged them to emulate Christ. He stressed that, prosperity messages are good since Christ even preached about it, but said such messages should not be used to exploit the poor.
Rev. Thorley advised the priests to ensure that everything they did, should build on the hard won reputation of the Anglican Church, which had suffered scorn in the past years. He called on them to serve with humility in the various parishes they would be placed and be discerning in order to meet the needs of the poor.
Right Reverend Daniel Yinkah Sarfo, Anglican Bishop of Kumasi, who ordained priests, urged them to be good shepherds, who should always guard them for God. The six after being sworn in were presented with Bibles to signify their duties in the Church. 24 Nov. 08
