Anglican Diocese of Sunyani launches endowment fund

Right Reverend Dr. Festus Yeboah Asuamah, Anglican Bishop of Sunyani has appealed to politicians to campaign on issues and refrain from utterances that could tear the nation apart.

The Bishop made the appeal on Sunday in Sunyani during the launch of the Church’s Diocesan Endowment Fund to promote education and finance other developmental projects of the church.

He said no political party was bigger than the nation and must therefore put a high premium on the relative peace currently been enjoyed by Ghanaians, before, during and after the impending general elections.

Bishop Asuamah advised the youth to be circumspect and not allow themselves to be used by politicians to foment troubles and carry out their political agenda, which could disrupt the election, maim people and disturb the nation’s peace.

“If you allow yourselves to be used by politicians to achieve their monetary gains to satisfy their selfish interest, it is you and your family who would suffer when you are caught by the law”, he advised.

Rt. Rev Dr. Asuamah earlier in a sermon, lamented the fraudulent ways some people use in acquiring wealth, saying “money in its self is not evil but there must be a proper way of getting it” .

He buttressed his statement with a quotation from the bible in proverbs 13: 11 that “wealth gotten by vanity shall diminish but that which is gathered by labour shall increase”.

The Bishop noted that even though the love of money had become part of human character, it must be characterized in a positive manner so that one could enjoy life in happiness, adding that, money acquired wrongly attract fear and thieves and automatically vanishes.

“Too much love of money led some people to sin and eventually landed them in trouble and sometimes to death,” he pointed out.

Rt. Rev Dr. Asuamah, explained the main objective of the Fund was to support brilliant but needy Anglicans within the Diocese with scholarships and also to assist Anglican institutions from basic to tertiary level whilst establishing new ones.

Besides supporting the Clergy and the Laity in Theology training programmes, some members would also be trained in other fields like administration, for effective and efficient management of the church’s health and educational institutions as well as establishing more health facilities for the needs of the entire Brong Ahafo Region, he added.
