Apostle Dr Samuel Asuming-Brempong, a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Agri-Business of the College of Agriculture, University of Ghana, was on Saturday elected Chairman of the Great Commission Church International (GCCI).
This took place on the Ghana Christian University College campus at Amrahia near Dodowa in Accra; during the Church’s 22nd Annual General Council Meeting.
Elder Samuel Doku, the Church’s Electoral Commissioner declared the result after a smooth and peaceful voting.
“I now declare the results of the Chairmanship of the Church as follows: Apostle Dr Asuming-Brempong - 68 votes representing 60.70% and Apostle Samuel Vincent Ansah – 42 votes representing 39.30%. I therefore declare Apostle Samuel Asuming-Brempong duly elected as Chairman of GCCI - Ghana,” Elder Doku stated.
An elated Apostle Dr Asuming-Brempong in his acceptance speech, said he was most grateful to the Almighty God for fulfilling a prophecy he gave him many years ago during a private fasting and prayer session in his hometown when GCCI was then not born; “that I will be third in line to head a church,”.
He expressed his gratitude to the Church for the honour done him and promised to work harder with his colleagues for the upliftment of GCCI.
Apostle Ansah on his part accepted the results gracefully and promised to support the new leadership in doing God’s work.
He said leadership is from God, he was thankful to the Church for their decision.
Apostle Joseph Kwabena Antwi, out-going National Chairman, said the election had come to lift the Church to another level.
Brief Profile of Apostle Dr Asuming-Brempong
He hails from Kwaso near Ejusi in the Ashanti region and was born on July 1, 1954. He accepted Christ on 31st July, 1971. After his secondary education he graduated with B.Sc. Hons. degree in Agriculture Economics at the University of Ghana.
Apostle Dr Asuming-Brempong’s pursuit in the academia include M.Sc. Agric Economics at the University of the Philippines, Las-Banos, and an MA Economics and M.Sc Agric Economics and a PhD in Agric Economics all at the University of Michigan State in the United States of America; and an M.A Study of Religions from 2011 to 2013 at the University of Ghana.
He took a certificate course in Theology at the Gospel Revival Ministry Bible School, graduating in 1980 and was subsequently ordained a Pastor in the same year.
When GCCI started in 1991, he was one of the founding fathers of the Church and assumed the office of the 2nd Vice Chairman of the Church in-charge of finance and administration.
He is currently the first Vice-Chairman - Missions and the Vice Chairman of the Apostolic Council of GCCI.
He is happily married to Dr Mrs Stella Asuming-Brempong, a Senior Lecturer at the College of Agriculture, University of Ghana and they are blessed with three boys and three girls.
Apostle Dr Asuming-Brempong said his greatest desire is “to seek to glorify the Lord”. In July, when he is successfully inducted into office, he will become the third after Apostle J. F. K. Mensah and Apostle J. K. Antwi to occupy the Chair.
Other national executive members, who were also elected along side, include Apostle Richard Kwami Adanu – First Vice Chairman Missions, Rev Godson Kwasi Gbloe Second Vice Chairman Finance and Administration and Rev. Samuel Tatagah – Director Evangelism.
