Apostle Joseph Felix Kwesi Mensah, the Chairman of the Apostolic Council of the Great Commission Church International (GCCI), has called for teamwork in churches, in order to facilitate their growth and expansion.
He said the success of the church and ministry work depends largely on developing a strong team with a deep sense of team spirit.
He said divisions among Church Board Members, often leads to the stunting of the Church’s growth, because the team members were working as individuals and not as a team.
“A team is a group of people with a common vision and an accepted leader, who sets out to achieve a common goal by a common strategy as they help one another,” Apostle Mensah said in his homily at the end of the 26th Annual General Council Meeting (AGCM) of the GCCI held at Bunso in the Eastern Region.
The four-day meeting on the theme: "Imitating Jesus Christ", is being attended by over 120 participants including all members of GCCI Ghana Executive Council and their spouses, trustees, pastors, presiding elders, and delegates from Togo and Benin.
He appealed to Christian leaders to work as a team and to care for one another adding that God is a team - Father, Son and the Holy Spirit, and, therefore, Christians must work as a team.
He said the task of world evangelism could be accomplished within some few years if Christians would work as a team.
He said life is full of challenges, but if one learns teamwork, one could breakthrough over his enemies.
Apostle Mensah said teamwork is built on factors such as strong relationships, clear communication, complementary spiritual gifts and well defined roles.
He said for every team to excel, there should be an accepted leader; stating that "when you have a team, where everybody is equal, you cannot achieve your target".
Apostle Mensah admitted that team leaders sometimes make mistakes; however, he explained that: “The wisdom of heaven is that it is better to have a leader, who sometimes makes mistakes in a team than to have a team without a leader”.
Apostle Professor Samuel Asuming-Brempong, the Chairman of the Executive Council of GCCI -Ghana, urged Christian leaders to preach Christ centred gospel messages.
"We should not just preach anything but rather the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and that we should copy Jesus in everything we do," he said.
Apostle Prof Asuming-Brempong urged Christian leaders to promote teamwork at all levels of the church.
He said the GCCI in 2016 marked its silver jubilee celebration and expressed gratitude to God for seeing them through.
He also expressed gratitude to GCCI's Board of Trustees, the Apostolic Council, the Executive Council Ghana, Pastors, Elders, Deacons and all church members for their support.
The 26th AGCM after deliberating on the GCCI Constitutional Review Committee's Report, which was chaired by Reverend Godson Gbloe, approved its drafting.
The GCCI draft constitution would then be presented to the Apostolic Council for their approval, for it to be put to a referendum at the 27th AGCM in January, 2018.
