The immediate Past Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana, Right Reverend Dr. Akwasi Aboagye-Mensah, has said people who have the perception that going to church warrant them to have a firm foundation to attain everlasting life should discard such wrong notion since going to church alone does not necessarily mean one has eternal life.

Rt. Rev. Dr. Aboagye-Mensah made the call in a sermon he delivered at a thanks-giving service and the dedication of a new church building built and well furnished by a philanthropist, Madam Betty Agyapong, for the Assin Dompim Ebenezer Methodist Church at Assin Dompim.

He said, as people and the temple of the Lord, the only strong foundation we need to attain is salvation in Christ Jesus, and reminded Christians that whosoever destroys the temple of the Lord will likewise be destroyed.

According to him, there is the need for us to examine ourselves on how we live, and refrain from immoral activities like disrespecting of authority, cheating one another, insulting ourselves, taking illegal drugs, fornication and the use of indecent language.

He advised Ghanaians to lead lives worthy of emulation.

Madam Agyapong, 52, a citizen of Assin Dompim, said she went through so many tribulations and committed herself to the Lord and entered into a covenant with God that she will build a chapel to glorify His name.

According to her, she took 15 years to put up the building, and expressed her gratitude to all who supported her.

The Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel K. Asante, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, dedicating the building, asked the people to rejoice that the Lord God has put it into the hearts of his people to build a new chapel to the glory of his name.

He asked the people to cultivate the culture of maintenance to help prolong the life span of the building, and also to work hard to win more souls for the Lord.

Later, the Church presented a Citation to Madam Agyapong for fulfilling her promise to the Lord.
