Bishop urges people to place faith in God

Takoradi, Jan. 6-GNA -Most Reverend John Martin Darko, Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Sekondi-Takoradi, has said violence and armed conflicts would never solve the problems of the country.

In an end of year message released to the press at the weekend in Takoradi, he said love and forgiveness should guide the people to allow democratic governance of the country to prevail in peace.

Bishop Darko said, "If we want Peace in our human society and for that matter our nation, we need to be truthful towards one another and do justice to one another".

He said the people must not lie to one another because it is evil and the country's politicians must realize that they have a duty before God to serve in truth and peace and not to follow any hidden agenda. Bishop Darko said for years, the people have suffered poverty in the midst of the rich resources of the country and have lived on promises. He said it is time to make them feel the reality of economic and social emancipation adding, "The reality of our economic growth must begin to show in peoples' pocket and the meals they eat".

Bishop Darko said the evils on the society caused by undisciplined officials, individuals, gangs, drivers on the road and identifiable groups who have no goodwill and do not believe in truth and peace. The only driving force that motivates them is selfishness, misplaced pride and bad will, he said.

Bishop Darko said the future is disturbing for those who have no trust in God but trust only in their own abilities and capabilities.
