The Christian Council of Ghana congratulates its Muslim brothers and sisters in the country, as the holy month of Ramadan draws to a close, and prepare to celebrate the great Eid-ul-Fitr – the Festival of Fast-Breaking.

For a whole month, our brothers and sisters have fasted from dawn to sunset, refraining from food and drink; offering special prayers for forgiveness, guidance, prosperity and unity; sharing love; engaging in peacemaking and charitable works for our homeland Ghana.

As the Islamic faith dictates, the period of Ramadan has been a moment of intense spiritual renewal, reflection upon the good judgment and guidance that comes with the faith, and upon the responsibility that we have towards one another as one people, and to God almighty.

After diligently dedicating themselves to this very useful 30 days of fasting and praying, it is time for the Eid – a joyous celebration signaling a new beginning and the victory that comes with this intense spiritual exercise.

On this note, the Council commends the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu and all Ghanaian Muslims for their tremendous contributions to the development of this country. Their continuous role in facilitating national cohesion, tolerance, peace, and the socio-economic growth of our country is worth emulating by all.

As a Council, we join them in this great celebration, and assure them of our continuous partnership, in living as one people who believe in the one, true God in making Ghana great and strong.

It is our prayer that, we will continue to reinforce our existing union to resist any internal or external religious extremism that can distabilise the peace and tolerance we are enjoying in this country.

We ask God almighty to continue to bless and protect our Muslim brothers and sisters. Above all, we pray for God’s blessings, peace and prosperity on this great nation of ours.

Happy Eid!
