Catholic media practitioners pledge to promote church activities

Members of the Catholic Association of Media Practitioners - Ghana, (CAMP-G), have pledged to make issues concerning the Church in Ghana a priority by making available space and airtime at their various Media Organisations.

The Association pledged fidelity to the truth for which Christ lived and died while affirming their responsibility to promote activities of the Church and holding on to high ethical and professional standards.

The group made these resolutions at the end of its 2017 National Congress at the Society of African Missions Regional House at Oshuiman in the Archdiocese of Accra, held from October 20 to 21 on the theme: Strategising for Greater Impact in the Catholic Church.

The Congress was aimed at deliberating on ways possible to reposition the Association to the benefit of the Church and society as a whole.

The CAMP- G members urged all Catholic Media Practitioners in the country to join the Association to effectively publicise the Church activities in Ghana to continue the evangelisation work through the Media, resolving also to establish Diocesan Chapters of CAMP-G and Coordinators in the major media Houses in Ghana

They resolved to play significant roles in the publication of bulletins at their various Parishes and to establish an online Radio Station to help in the propagation of relevant Church and National issues.

They were optimistic to launch a project dubbed: Disability Is not Inability, a documentary that captures the life of Enyonam, a disabled yet, an industrious Teacher and a farmer, put together by CAMP – G.

Speaking at the function, the Interim President of the Association, Mr. Emmanuel Vorgbe, bemoaned the low publicity of the activities of the Church, which he attributed to the non- involvement of the Association in the planning of events of the Church.

He urged that the Church gives the necessary support needed by the various professional groups, especially the CAMP-G to facilitate the promotion of the Church.

The Congress featured talks on CAMP-G by Dr. Kwesi, Annoh, former President of CAMP-G;African Catholic Union of the Press (UCAP) by Mrs. Victoria Lugey, UCAP Second Vice President and Executive member of CAMP-G.

Sir Benedict Assorow, Managing Editor of The Catholic Standardtook the participants through the activities of the World Catholic Association for Communication (SIGNIS) while Mr. Edward Ayem, Co-ordinator of the Catholic Professional Guilds briefed the Congress on the aims and objectives of the Guilds.
