Catholics should eschew superstition

Most Reverend Alfred Agyenta, Bishop of the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Catholic Diocese, on Wednesday called on Catholics not to allow superstition and fear drive them out of the church in search of protection and prosperity elsewhere.

He advised the people to rather strengthen their faith through prayer and the many sources of rich spiritual teachings in the church’s books

He urged the Priests to take up the responsibility of helping to build up the faith of the people and get them out of mistrust and ignorance.

The Bishop was delivering a sermon during the Chrism Mass celebration in Bolgatanga where all the priests in the diocese joined him and the catholic congregation to prepare themselves for the Easter celebration and to bless the oils of the church, used for the sacraments that is, in anointing the sick, for baptism, ordinations and other functions of the church.

Most Rev Agyenta, reminded the priests that they had been called by God to serve the people and were to pay more attention to those who would need them most.

“The sick, suffering, poor and those home bound should see more of you than the healthy and rich”, he added.

He told them to let their pastoral ministry reflect the anointing they received when they were ordained.

He commended the Catechists and priests who were working under difficult conditions and urged them to continue to put up their best.**
