The Sekondi Circuit of the Methodist Church Ghana has expressed concern about the many ills pervading into the celebration of Easter in recent times and the need to understand the concept of the celebration of Christ's death.

The Church is therefore poised to use many channels of communication, community engagement to redeem the Sekondi community and neighbouring ones from the "sinful and ungodly acts" perpetuated during the Easter festivity.

The festive occasion has been characterised by various forms of immorality, which the church described as a misrepresentation, even among Christian communities.

The Bishop of Sekondi Diocese, Right Reverend Daniel De-Graft Brace told Journalists at a News conference that the essence of Easter was the Risen Christ and the power of the resurrection which gave Christians a new beginning

"How then do we celebrate such a festival indulging in immoral activities and sin as evidenced by the sexual activities in the open, with condoms, drugs, alcoholism and the general loss of morality", queried.

The Methodist school Park and classrooms according to Him bore the brunt of such immoral acts with used condoms, bottles of spirited beverages, debris of drugs all scattered around.

Right Rev. Daniel De-Graft Brace said it was worrying that people were losing out on good virtues and diluting the very purpose of existence, "Christ being crucified for mankind".

He said the Methodist church would together with other Christian churches and interest groups work to rescue humanity from the darkness.

“The Methodist Church has extended the hand of fellowship to all Christian Communities in and around the city to offer the actual alternative of Easter, as a mark of sanitisation of the minds, bodies and soul of the youth and to restore the dignity of the historic city of Sekondi”

He said the crusade would use gospel music shows, praises and worship, evangelism, prayer sessions, prophetic and anointing services to “celebrate the essence of Easter, which is the Christ is Risen- to save mankind”

The Occasion was used to launch the "Sekondi for Christ Crusade".
