Christian urged to be financially self-reliant

Hohoe, June 20, GNA - Right Reverend Francis Amenu, Moderator of the General Assembly of the E. P. Church, Ghana, on Friday challenged Christians to work hard and be financially self-sufficient. Addressing the 19th Central Presbytery Conference of the Evangelical Church in Hohoe, he told members that the financial autonomy attained by the Church from its overseas partner's, called for strategic measures to maintain the status quo.

The four-day conference, which was under the theme: "Newness in Christ", attracted delegates from the 15 districts of the Church. Rt. Rev. Amenu challenged members of the Church to devise innovative means of improving the Church's humanitarian businesses in the fields of agriculture, health, education, economic ventures as well as spiritual empowerment and development. He was not happy with the financial difficulties being experienced in the Church's viable projects such as a printing press, fisheries venture and schools. He exhorted members of the Church to live by faith and not by sight.

Togbega Gabusu, Paramount chief of Gbi Traditional Area advised the Church not to focus on materialism and or prosperity, but rather on the spiritual needs of its congregation and mankind. He also added that the Church should endeavour to win more souls for Christ. Rev. David A. Y. Adjakra, Chairman of the Central Presbytery, in a welcome address, challenged Churches to assist the underprivileged in society. He said bright future awaits Christians and with a new attitude and strategies they would attain the hallmark of success.
