Kumasi, Jan 16, GNA - Leaders and members of churches and related organizations in Ashanti region have called for the institutionalization of an annual National Day of Thanksgiving and Repentance to offer prayers for peace and development of the nation.
In a communiqu=E9 issued in Kumasi on Monday at the end of a three-day prayer conference dubbed "Ghana Jubilee Prayer Conference", the Christians appealed to political leaders to recognize the relevance of the jubilee celebration to Ghana's 50th independence anniversary and collaborate with the Christian community to towards the realization of spiritual and material blessings.
The communiqu=E9 urged political leaders to work seriously to address corruption, poverty, unemployment and cynicism and the seeming hopelessness in certain quarters of the country. It advised politicians to avoid division and polarization of issues and decisions along political lines and rather cooperate in promoting the national interest.
It described recent events happening to the nation such as debt forgiveness, invitation of the country to serve as a non-permanent member of the UN, the country's qualification to the World cup and the declaration of the country as the first happiest country in Africa as an acknowledgement of manifold of blessings of God to the nation. The communiqu=E9 appealed to Ghanaians to be cautious of the harmful effect of cynicism and appreciate positive developments in the country, respect national leaders, avoid corruption, laziness and "get-rich-quick" attitude and pursue righteousness, hard work, discipline, sacrifice, patriotism and unity.
It called for a peaceful co-existence between Christians and people of other faith to ensure a prosperous nation.
Meanwhile, a three-day miracle crusade and seminar by Bishop Michael Reid of England, is to be held at the Bantama Presby Park in Kumasi from January 23 to 25 this year.
The crusade, which is being organized by all Christian's organizations in Kumasi in conjunction with Michael Reid Ministries, is to preach Christ as the Lord and savior and also heal the sick. 16 Jan. 06
