Ho, March. 29, GNA - The Volta Regional Headquarters of 'Jubilee International Churches and Ministries,' on Sunday inaugurated a library to help promote reading among the youth.
The library, which was established with support from a publishing firm, would be open to residents of Ho as a community facility. Inaugurating it, Mr Alikem Tamakloe, Volta Regional Librarian, reiterated the need for individuals, especially the youth to read widely in order to understand situations around them. He commended the Church for the initiative and urged members to make maximum use of the facility.
Mr Tamakloe promised to offer free training to volunteers to man the library and expressed the hope that it would be managed well to benefit future generations.
Torgbe Dzidoa I, a Sub-Chief and Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES), described libraries as hospitals for the brain and commended the effort of the Church. He pledged the support of GES to such initiatives and urged other churches to also establish such facilities. Torgbe Dzidoa promised to donate books to the library to enhance its stock.
Reverend James Noble Tulasi, Pastor in charge of the Region, bemoaned the lack of interest of young people in reading. He urged them to build their future through reading of good materials.
Reverend Tulasi also advised parents and the elderly to take to reading in order to encourage young people to do same. Mr Maxwell Gbaka, an elder of the Church in a welcome address said the Church would organize periodic programmes such as reading picnics to ensure that members of the library make good use of the facility.
