Church of Christ donates to Nsawam Prisons

Members of the Youth and Women's Fellowship of the Mamprobi Church of Christ, have donated various items valued over five thousand Ghana Cedis to the authorities of the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.

The items were eight bags of gari, three bundles of toilet roll, one bag of salt, one bag of okro, 18 gallons of palm oil, four boxes of soap, one bag of onions, and two bales of unused clothing.

Evangelist Benjamin Anane-Siaw of the Church, made the presentation at a ceremony at the premises of the Prison.

Ev. Anane-Siaw said the gesture formed part of the Church’s corporate and social responsibility, to reach out to their unfortunate brothers and sisters who for one or the reasons, had find themselves under-going reformation in the correctional Instructions.

Ev, Anane-Siaw recounted that over the years, the branch had been supportive to many institutions and individuals, including the Countryside Orphanage Home at Awutu Bawjiase, and this year decided to lend a helping hand to the male inmates at the Nsawam Prisons.

Mr. Afotey Odar, Chief Officer of the Prison, received the items on behalf of the Prison Service, and thanked the donor for taking the plight of the inmates to heart to donate such items.

He promised that they would be used for the puropse for which they were donated.

Mr Odar appealed to philanthropists, corperate bodies and NGOs, to make similar donations to help in the upkeep of the inmates.

Members of the Fellowship use the occasion to worship with the inmates during which Mr Francis K. Nti, leader of the group prayed for God’s grace and protection for the inmates.

In a brief sermon, Ev Anane-Siaw urged the inmates to see their time in the prison as God’s way of preparing them for better days ahead.
