Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi, the General Secretary of the Church of Pentecost, has donated 1,000 book markers with tit bits on cholera and Ebola prevention to the Korle Gonno Cluster of Schools in Accra.

The donation was at the instance of Wisewater Foundation an NGO working in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service in heightening the public education on the prevention of the diseases.

Apostle Kumi-Larbi advised the pupils to practice personal hygiene since cleanliness is next to godliness, adding, “As Christians dirt is sin and called on the pupils never to liter the environment.”

He said Guinea-Bissau is one of the poorest countries in the world yet they have deep culture of cleanliness and “wonder why Ghanaians cannot practice same”.

Apostle Kumi-Larbi stated that there had been occasions when he ordered persons who had littered while in vehicles to go and pick the litter from the ground.

He said Ghana was favoured because “as Christians we have prayed to prevent the outbreak of the Ebola virus but we need to practice cleanliness in consolidate that position.”

“I have not shaken hands for the past three months, even at funerals, due to my commitment to observing the prevention of the Ebola outbreak. Having personally signed a circular, calling on all members of the church to observe prevention, I must be seen as showing leadership examples,” he said.

Mr Emmanuel Amarquaye, Executive Chairman of Wisewater Foundation, said his organisation came up with the design of the bookmarkers to continuously serve as a reminder to all in observing prevention as well as inculcate reading habit among the youth.

He said they have collaborated with the Ghana Health Service in support of the production of adequate educational materials for free circulation, especially in deprived schools.

He therefore called on corporate organisations, churches, and businesses to emulate the good example of the Church of Pentecost by coming on board to support the public education.

Mrs Patricia Ashun, a teacher of Ebenezer Five Junior High School, thanked the church for the donation.

The two parties also signed onto the workplace Health Standard Precautionary Declaration for Cholera & Ebola prevention to be displayed in public places to educate the public on the prevention of the disease.
