Church prays for scientists to find cure to the deadly HIV/AIDS

Ashaiman, June 8, GNA - Reverend Benjamin Allan Adjei, the resident Minister of Worldwide Gateway Church in Ashaiman, has called for prayers for scientists to find a cure for HIV/AIDS.

He expressed worry that scientists have not yet succeeded in their research to find a cure for the pandemic that has devastated some homes. Rev. Adjei was saying the sermon to climax activities marking the second anniversary of Actionplus Foundation, an Ashaiman based Christian non-governmental organization (NGO) which focuses on the plight of the deprived and people living with HIV/AIDS.

Rev. Adjei said while the church is playing its role through prayers, people must also lead upright and moral lives to avoid contracting the pandemic by refraining from indulging in promiscuous behaviour. He called on the youth to avoid tendencies that would influence them to engage in immoral lifestyle but rather focus on profitable activities. Rev. Fred Osei Ennin, Chief Executive Officer of Actionplus Foundation, said members of the NGO were moved by the plight of the needy, poor and victims of HIV/AIDS to form the NGO to support them. Over the two years it has been in existence, he said, the NGO has embarked on outreach programmes to educate the people on HIV/AIDS. The education drive, which took the form of workshops, sent them to hotels, schools, markets, night clubs and lorry stations in Tema, Ashaiman and Dodowa.

The Project Manager of the NGO, Mr Elvis Washington, called for support from philanthropists and benevolent societies to execute the task ahead. According to him plans are advanced to establish a vocational centre in Ashaiman to offer training for the disadvantaged in the society.
