The Most Reverend Joseph Osei Bonsu, President of Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference, has underlined the resolve of the church to deepen its partnership with government to improve education.

He said the Church was not happy about the current education standard and would want to see some improvement.

Most Rev Osei Bonsu, who is the Konongo-Mampong Catholic Bishop, was speaking at a day’s stakeholders’ forum organized by the National Catholic Secretariat in Kumasi.

The goal was to discuss ways of ensuring effective collaboration between the church and the state for the development of education.

It brought together Catholic Bishops, education directors, managers of educational units, traditional leaders, women groups, teachers, the clergy and nuns.

It was the first of a series of forums planned by the Church to be held in all the regions.

Bishop Osei Bonsu said the Church would continue to work closely with the state to promote discipline and raise academic performance in schools.

He said it was important for all stakeholders to accept to play their expected roles well to enhance teaching and learning, adding that the Church had over the years been at the forefront of education promotion in the country.**
