'Churches now monuments' – Rev Nyamekye

General Overseer of the House of Faith Ministries, Rev Alfred Nyamekye has bemoaned the growing hedonistic characteristics and tendencies as well as the pursuit of avarice among people of the Christian faith, particularly pastors.

According to him, churches – places to seek salvation – have now become monuments, occupying well-crafted architecturally designed structures that cost millions of Ghana Cedis to the detriment of the lost souls whom Jesus Christ has died for.

Speaking at the launching of his book titled: “The Supreme Jesus, Making Him Known to the World,” Rev Nyamekye said his 46 years in the ministry had revealed to him that many Christians and their leaders appear to have abandoned the core mandate of the church.

He stated that pastors were immoderately desirous of acquiring wealth at the expense of taking the Good News of salvation to the ends of the earth in order to win souls.

He noted that the book, which is on mission and evangelism, is intended to put some kind of fire in the hearts of believers to rise up to their spiritual responsibilities and take the gospel to the people.

“In the days shortly after Jesus death, Christians had more challenges than today, but they pursued their core mandate,” he said in an answer to a question whether today’s challenges have encapsulated into the pursuit of money.

“Heaven is real and hell is hot, and God still loves sinners. Therefore in spite of the challenges, we need to serve the God of the super natural.”

For him, the book has come to provide more knowledge about Jesus Christ since many still considers Him to be at the same pedestal with prophets, whilst some consider Jesus to be one of the chiefs.

Rev Nyamekye asserted that the Bible indicates clearly that Jesus is the beloved son of God who has no match and remains the saviour and redeemer of mankind.

“As you read this book, one will be exposed to other areas of Christ’s life that many have abandoned.”
