Churches organise Fun Games at Tarkwa

Tarkwa, (W/R) June 29, GNA - The Divisional Chief of Apinto has donated a trophy to be competed for in Fund Games among a number of churches in Tarkwa to mark the Republic Day holiday on Monday. The 18 churches will compete in football, sack race and lime and spoon.

The participating churches include Pentecostal Believers Life, Apostolic Church Ghana, Church of Christ Spiritual Movement, Christian Divine Church, Christian Faith, St. Matthew Catholic and Gadiel Acquaah Memorial Methodist. The rest are St. Peters Anglican, Glory House Chapel, Fountain of Life Ministries, Church of Pentecost, Glorious Gospel, Christ Within and Lighthouse Chapel International.

Others are Divine Healers, Gospel Power Revival, Salem Pentecostal and International Central Gospel Church. Briefing the GNA Sports at Tarkwa, a spokesman for the organizers, Mr. Ernest Asiedu Alias Space J, Programmes Manager of Space FM, a local radio station at Tarkwa said, it was high time the youth were encouraged to change their attitude to undertake positive ventures to improve their lot.

He said it is in this connection that the Fun Games are been organised to use the sports forum a cradle in this drive. Mr Asiedu said the focus of the youth towards holidays and leisure should be skewed towards sporting events to develop their talents and condemned activities of some of the youth who indulge in vices that society abhors adding that he has the hope that sports would be used to make them productive.

He said that apart from using the Fun games as a focal point of social integration, sports helps in reducing stress, cholesterol level and improving blood circulation among the people. The Programmes Manager noted that even though the churches might have different doctrines and liturgy, "We are all serving one God at the end of the day".

All the participating churches are to assemble at the premises of the University of Mines and Technology and go on a float amidst brass band music through some principal streets of Tarkwa and finally converge at T & A Park for the Games.
