The Effiduase Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana (MCG) has held its 18th Annual Synod at Effiduase in the Sekyere-East District of the Ashanti Region, with a call to the clergy to speak against corruption and injustices in the society.
“Just as the Prophet Amos spoke against corruption, injustices and other social vices that had engulfed the people of his time, so should Ministers of the Gospel speak against these vices in the community,” Right Reverend Moses Quayson, the Diocesan Bishop, noted.
He strongly denounced the current situation where pastors and priests in the country had been criticized by politicians for daring to speak against government policies which are not in the best interest of the nation.
The government, he said, ought to accept constructive criticism to scale up national development for the wellbeing of the people.
The Synod was held under the theme “Witnessing to Christ: Holistic Spirituality with Development”.
Right Reverend Quayson, commenting on the energy crisis, tasked the government to explore avenues to find alternative means to address the issue to boost economic growth.
The government, he said, must also put in place pragmatic measures to create employment for the youth.
The Methodist Bishop reminded leaders of the nation that they had been mandated to find solutions to the development challenges confronting the nation and must therefore do as such without losing focus.
Right Reverend Quayson urged the members to live upright lives in harmony with Biblical principles for their spiritual and physical development.
