Kumasi, Jan 26, GNA - The Reverend Dr Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, Chairperson of the Asante Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has urged the clergy to protect cherished Christian values and repudiate strange doctrines.
He said many Christians in the country are being confused by the alien teachings of charlatans, parading as reverend ministers and pastors.
He said it is deeply worrying that "even the sin of greed is becoming accepted under a new name; prosperity, among some sections of the priesthood."
Rev Opuni-Frimpong was speaking at the induction service for the Re Alex Adu-Sekyere, the District Minister of the Bantama Peyer Memorial Church in Kumasi.
He replaces Rev Peter Kofi Nyarko, who has been transferred to the Maamobi in Accra.
The Asante Presbytery Chairperson reminded his colleague ministers of the Gospel about the need for self-discipline, sacrifice, humility and affection for the poor and socially-disadvantaged.
He encouraged the District Minister to collaborate with leaders to bring progress to the church.
He should also strengthen the Youth Ministry to help raise a generation of numbers who were more responsive to the Presbyterian tenets.
Rev Adu-Sekyere pledged to work hard to win more souls for Christ.
