Commissioned ministers of E.P. Church urged to uphold its values

Very Reverend Francis Amenu, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, on Sunday asked newly commissioned ministers to be true to the church’s values of providing for the material and spiritual needs of society.

In his sermon in Hohoe to commission the 40 new pastors of the Church under the theme: “Strategic Evangelism for growth and development,” he urged the new ministers to plant at least one new congregation.

Very Rev. Amenu also urged them to promote formal education, good health, agriculture as well as the Church’s investment at their various stations. These he added would qualify them into a full ministry in the next two years.

He said any of them who failed to meet the targets would have to give way to others who would be prepared to meet those challenges.

Very Reverend Amenu again admonished the new pastors to live by their vows to serve wherever they would be posted to, and seek their strength from God through prayers and good works.

Very Reverend Amenu asked them to emulate the simplicity and humility of John the Baptist, who though was the son of a high priest, erected his pulpit in the wilderness where people left their cities and towns to hear his message of salvation and to be baptized.

He admonished them against self-glorification and fault-finding because the people will judge them by the false promises they make and standards they set for others.

Ms Akua Sena Dansua, Minister for Tourism, urged the new pastors to propagate the message of peace wherever they might be.

She said their responsibilities as ministers of the Church were the same as those of ministers of State and government, because society looked up to both of them for their material well-being.**
