Tarkwa, Dec. 17,GNA-The Reverend Dennis Atiega, Chairman of the Tarkwa Local Council of Churches, said Ghanaians must work to improve on the dignity of each other.
He said the lack of interest in the activities of others had contributed to the increasing social divide, tensions and mistrust. Rev. Atiegar who was preaching a sermon on the theme: "Enhancing Human Dignity" at the Goldfields annual thanksgiving service and dinner at Tarkwa on Wednesday.
He said the increasing number of physically challenged persons, the sick, orphans and other marginalised and vulnerable individuals called for a serious focus on their plight.
Rev. Atiegar said society cannot continue to ignore such individuals and all efforts must be made to enhance their dignity. He explained that as Christmas approaches, every Ghanaian must prepare special packages for the vulnerable in society to make them happy and transform them from their present situation. "Many cannot afford to provide for their families and those who have must exhibit some kindness to such people who live with us in our respective communities", he stressed.
Mr. Peter Turner, Executive Vice President of Goldfields West Africa Region, said 2010 had its own challenges but the company managed to overcome them adding, "we will continue to act responsibly, by caring for the environment and we will be responsible to all our stakeholders". 17 Dec.10
