Evangelist banned from Techimanhene's palace

The Techiman Traditional Council has banned Evangelist Owusu Fordjour of Dwankobea Prayer Camp from entering the Ohene Ameyaw Palace of the Paramount Chief of Techiman, Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw.

Evangelist Owusu Fordjour has also been warned to be of good behavior else the Techiman Traditional Council would have no choice but to apply the appropriate sanctions against him as tradition demands.

This was contained in a statement signed on behalf of the Traditional Council by Oheneba Yaw Frimpong, Daabehene of Techiman Traditional Area, indicating that the time has come to call the evangelist to order, saying since Evangelist Owusu Fordjour came to town, he has not in any way shown respect to the Chiefs of Techiman. “Since two captains cannot stay in one ship, the evangelist must choose between peace and war”, stated the statement.

According to the Traditional Council, they were prompted to issue the statement as a result of a Press statement issued by Evangelist Owusu Fordjour in which he accused the Paramount Chief of Techiman, Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw of hiring macho men to beat him up at Jama Timponim. The Traditional Council stated that, the Evangelist insulted the Omanhene in the press statement and even went further to threaten a court action against the Omanhene. Responding to the Techiman Traditional Council, Evangelist Owusu Fordjour emphatically stated that he does not agree to the pronouncement that “the Traditional Council will have no choice but to apply the appropriate sanctions against him as tradition demands” since Ghana is a democratic country governed by a constitution.

According to the Evangelist, he was assaulted in his house and again beaten at the forecourt of the Omanhene’s Palace, where his mobile phone and Video Camera were seized. He continued that he was again attacked with guns in his house and his premises was ransacked by the “macho men” who claimed they were sent by the Omanhene of Techiman.

The evangelist said three police men were eyewitnesses to the unfortunate incidence.

Evangelist Owusu Fordjour stated that he approached the Registrar of the Techiman Traditional Council to grant him audience to the Omanhene to ascertain the truth or otherwise of the pronouncement of the Gyaasehene of the Traditional Area and the Macho men on their claim that they were sent by the Omanhene of Techiman. The Registrar, he said, asked him to apply in writing before he could see the Chief, which was done.

According to the Evangelist, he challenged the Omanhene with all respect to come out publicly to deny the claims of the Macho men and the Gyaasehene if he is innocent that he sent them for the attack so that he can bring those who infringed on his human right to book according to the laws of the land without attaching his name. Evangelist Owusu Fordjour stated that his life was in danger and cannot sit down and fold the arms unconcerned about his own safety.

He stated that he has respected the traditional rulers and accorded them due reverence in all his endeavors, and has not in anyway disrespected them but has only spoken according to the teachings of the Bible with truth which some of them are now advocating just as he has done.
