Agona Swedru, Nov 3, GNA - The Agona Swedru branch of the First Baptist Church (FBC) has presented food items and personal effects worth 1,000 Ghana cedis to the Mother Care Orphanage.
The items were two bags of rice, loafs of bread, oranges, pineapples, biscuits, two cartons of ideal milk, soap, plastic plates and toilet rolls. Others were shoes, sandals, socks and four bails of used cloths. The Rev Stephen Okyere-Nkum, Pastor in charge of the church, said the donation formed part of the activities marking the 25th anniversary of the church.
Rev Okyere-Nkum noted that the inmates through their no fault of theirs had found themselves in such situation and they needed financial and material assistance for their up keep. He said the church had conducted clean-up exercise, spiritual revival programmes, donation of blood and other fun games as part of the celebration.
The Rev Samuel Ofori-Attah, the Administrator of the Orphanage who received the items, thanked the church for the donation and appealed to corporate bodies, non-government organizations and philanthropists in and around Agona Swedru to assist the home. He said the home now has 100 people and it has become difficult to feed them. The Rev Ofori-Atta said problems facing the home include food items, clothing, footwear, educational materials, means of transport, library and health facility. 03 Nov 09
