Ghanaians celebrate Jesus Christ's victory over sin, resurrection

Hohoe, March 23, GNA- The Reverend William Sakoe, Parish Priest of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Hohoe on Sunday urged leaders in society especially politicians, who engage in deception and enticement to gain advantage over the populace to change for the better in the wake of Jesus Christ's resurrection.

He urged them to again refrain from giving vain promises and engagement in fraudulent practices to peddle half-truths and falsehood which were against the tenets of Godliness.

Rev. Sakoe, who was delivering a sermon themed, " New life in Christ" on Easter Sunday urged political leadership to re-awaken the national psyche towards reconciliation, love for one another and hard work.

He said Christians should change their attitudes to propagate the gospel otherwise, the crucifixion, death and resurrection of Christ was in vain.

Rev. Sakoe said this was because Christ's resurrection is key to the Christian faith and called on Christians whose lifestyles such as idolatry, fornication, corruption and indiscipline did not portray Godliness to change.

He said the divine power that brought Jesus Christ to life, continued to be available to mankind and asked Christians to delve into this reserve for new life and prosperity. The Parish Priest urged leadership to avoid engaging in dishonest and fraudulent contracts, which were detrimental to the development of mankind and that resources accruing from such accords should be ploughed into ventures that would benefit society as a whole.

In Kumasi, The Right Reverend Nuh Ben Abubekr, Bishop of Kumasi Methodist Diocese asked Christians to avoid searching for only material and monetary gains and be dedicated and committed to the worship of God to enable them to receive eternal life.

He noted that they should also exhibit qualities as love, kindness, compassion, humility, gentleness, forgiveness and others in their lives. Right Reverend Abubekr was delivering a sermon at the Wesley Cathedral at Adum to mark the resurrection of Christ on Sunday He said the resurrection of Christ brought hope and victory to mankind and stressed the need for Ghanaians to use the occasion to turn a new leaf and contribute positively to nation-building.

Bishop Abubekr, who was preaching under the theme: "New Life In Christ," urged Ghanaians to eschew immorality such rape and defilement, malice, slander, lies and utterances and behaviour that tended to raise ethnic tension. He said as chosen people of God, they should demonstrate the qualities that characterized the children of God.
