Ghanaians urged to thank God for the peace of the country

Kumasi, March 29, GNA - Right Reverend Professor Osei Safo-Kantanka, Methodist Bishop of the Kumasi, has urged Ghanaians to be grateful to God for the relative peace and stability the country has enjoyed over the years. "We should count ourselves as being blessed for God's protection and guidance and also endowing the country with abundant natural and human resources," he said.

Rt. Rev. Prof Safo-Kantanka was preaching the sermon at a thanksgiving service organized by the Old Tafo Local Council of Churches at Old Tafo in Kumasi on Sunday.

He spoke on the theme: "Blessed is the Nation whose God is the Lord". He made reference to civil strife, wars and unimaginable disasters that had hit many countries across the world and said Ghana had every reason to be thankful to God. The Methodist Bishop asked the people to be dedicated and worship God in honesty and truthfulness.

Rt. Rev. Prof Safo-Kantanka decried the growing alcoholism, drug addiction, teenage pregnancy and other social evils among the youth and called on the church to step up its evangelism programmes to transform people. Dr Anthony Akoto Osei, Member of Parliament (MP) for Tafo-Pankrono, called on all to help sustain the national peace. Nana Agyen Frimpong II, Chief of Tafo, advised the people to avoid practices that degrade and pollute the environment.
