The Global Evangelical Church through its Accra Presbytery has redeemed its annual pledge to support the Veterans Administration of Ghana (VAG) by donating assorted items worth Eight Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢ 8,000) to them.
The items included 52 bags of rice, two bags of sugar and two hundred loaves of bread to mark this year’s Remembrance Day.
Reverend Mawuli Dzidula Agudogo, Accra Presbytery Chairman of the Church who presented the items, called on Ghanaians especially the youth to emulate the selfless dedication and sacrifices the nation's forebears had demonstrated to bring it this far.
“Our forefathers have sacrificed their all, including their very lives, to build this nation, hence it behooves on us the new generation to maintain the products of their toil, while we pass on the message of service and voluntarism to our children,” he said.
Rev. Agudogo noted that for the past seven years, the Presbytery had supported VAG due to the immense and selfless contribution the veterans had made towards the development of the nation.
He said the Presbytery in particular and the Global Evangelical Church in general was committed to the holistic development of their members and the society as a whole, adding that as both spiritual and physical beings, it was incumbent on people to meet both needs.
Rev. Agudogo said the gesture formed part of the Presbytery’s corporate social responsibility and called on the government and other institutions to always honour and support the nation's heroes at all times.
He pledged the Church's unflinching support for VAG saying, “we very much appreciate your good works and promise that our prayers, presence and presents will always be with you”.
Colonel Chris Nutakor (Rtd), Executive Director of VAG, expressed the Administration's appreciation to the Church for their continuous support.
He pledged that the items would be used for their intended purposes and used the platform to appeal to others to emulate the Global Evangelical Church.
Rev. Dr. Michael Alloteh, Presbytery Clerk on behalf of the Church prayed for the Veterans and the nation.
