The Global Evangelical Student’s and Associates’ Ministry (GESAM) has launched its 25 anniversary at the Global Evangelical Church, Trinity Chapel in Accra to thank God and celebrate the successes chalked as a students’ ministry.
The occasion was used to raise funds in support of the GESAM educational fund to help brilliant and needy students in the Church.
It also served as a platform to deliberate on issues affecting the students on their various campuses, their achievements and challenges and to plan the way forward.
Right Reverend Dr Edem Tettey, Moderator of Global Evangelical Church (GEC), launching the anniversary, inaugurated a seven member board of trustees to spearhead the affairs of the fund.
The moderator underscored the importance of tertiary education in national development, stressing that, higher education offers opportunities for students to boost their career development.
Rt Rev Tettey noted that, the Church would not relent in initiating programmes to prepare the students to handle leadership positions and encouraged members of the church to give generously towards the fund and invest in the youth.
Rt Rev Tettey urged the students to be disciplined at their various institutions and be proud of their church and serve it diligently and whole-heatedly.
Reverend Prince Y.Tefe, Synod Clerk, GEC, preaching on the theme: “Arise and Build with Commitment”, urged the students to have confidence in God’s power to succeed in life irrespective of any challenges.
Rev Tefe said the Ministry should be built on the value of truth, and urged them to be committed to the truth of God, “for the Ministry to grow from strength to strength and have a better future.”
He noted that for the ministry to be strong, “it should be commissioned by the will of God, to be protected by the authority of God, be compelled by the knowledge of God and be consumed with the glory of God, which brings about humility.”
Rev Dr Nyuieko Avotri, National Champlain, GESAM, said the GESAM is an umbrella body for students of the Global Evangelical Church and their associated ministries with 67 educational institutions across the country.
He said the student’s ministry, which started at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology campus, was aimed at gathering the students for worship and ensure that they do not leave the Church to join other religious faiths.
Rev Avotri said the ministry has been at the forefront of evangelism in the church, winning souls and engaging in leadership training programmes for its members.
