The Ghana Christian Council of the UK and Ireland, on Wednesday, assured Ghanaians at home and the Diaspora that God’s perfect choice would unfold in the Supreme Court verdict on the 2012 election petition.
A statement issued jointly by the Council in Accra on Thursday, and copied to the Ghana News Agency by the Chairman; Reverend Canon George Ansah, Chaplain; Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh and Dr. Shadrack Ofosuware, Member, encouraged Ghanaians to thank God for his hands in the process for peace, unity, understanding and acceptance of the ruling.
“We continue to assure Ghanaians of our prayers and support in sustaining the gains of our fledgling democracy won on the blood and toil of our fathers.
“We particularly wish to entreat all Christians who constitute more than 70 per cent of the population and all other faith bodies to comport themselves and always bear in mind that our faith is founded upon love, humility and peace.
“Therefore, all Christians must see this occasion not only as a historical epoch in the life of the nation Ghana, but also an opportunity to showcase love, respect for one another, unity and maturity, “the statement said.
It asked Ghanaians to showcase to the rest of the world that Africa has come off age and is capable of providing leadership and direction to the rest of the world.
“May the peace of God rest upon Mother Ghana even as the verdict is called to bring an end to this political impact petition.”
The petition was filed by the main opposition New Patriotic Party against the declaration of the Electoral Commission that President John Dramani Mahama of the ruling National Democratic Congress won the 2012 presidential election.
