SEMINAR ON DEMOCRACY

Thu, 20 Nov 1997 Source: --

A Presidential Aide, Mr. D.S. Boateng has said that if the search for democracy as a viable political system is to benefit the African continent, its theory and practise should be re-tailored to take cognisance of the African political, social and cultural values. These values, he said, are basically consultative, participating and involve consensus building. Mr.. Boateng was opening a two day international seminar in Accra on democracy. The seminar, which is being attended by 80 participants from Ghana and Libya is organised by the Academic committee of the "Third Universal Theory" in collaboration with the world centre for research and studies of the Green Book. It will examine the nature and practical application of the "Third Universal Theory" as espoused by the Libyan Leader, Col. Muammar Al-Gadaffi in present day society. Mr.. Boateng was of the view that direct participation in decision-making is the most appropriate way to have a government of the people, for the people and by the people. He urged the participants to come up with recommendations that can inform and enrich the emerging democracies on the African continent. The Acting Secretary of the Libyan people's Bureau in Accra Brother Mohammed Omar Talbi, said the prime aim of the Third Universal Theory is the total emancipation of mankind from all forms of oppression. End
