In the darkest hour, Christ redeems – Parish Priest

Reverend Father Roland Kpaonu, Parish Priest, Christ the King Anglican Church in Sakumono, has reassured Christians of the redeeming nature of Christ in spite of the seeming darkness clouding the world.

Christ rebirth, he said, was significant as he came to illuminate the world and draw it out of darkness with a renewed sense of hope, unbounded joy and peace in perpetuity.

The Parish Priest was delivering a Christmas sermon on the theme, “The Word Became Flesh”.

As accustomed, parishioners were clad in guild uniforms in jubilant fashion as they sang hymns and chanted canticles in celebration of Christmas.

The Parish Priest said the world had been plunged in sheer wickedness, dishonesty and deceit but Christ rebirth gave hope and redemption to humanity.

According to him, Christians had defied the “true light of life” and had resorted to things that had the tendency of drifting them away from the tenets of Christianity.

Citing the first chapter of John, he explained that Christians were called to receive the light of Christ as it brought renewed hope, adding that in the presence of the light of Jesus Christ, darkness became ultimately powerless.

Rev. Fr Kpaonu said Christians had misconstrued and lost sight of the true essence of Christmas which required them to exemplify Christ and demonstrate constant love for humanity.

He said, “Christmas is a season of great joy and a time of God showing His unconditional love for us by continuously interceding on our behalves.”

He noted that Jesus Christ was a humble being born in a manger, calling on Christians to be humble at all times in spite of our social or economic status.
