Islamic scholar debunks claims child marriage is common in the Muslim community

An Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Ishaak Ibrahim Nuamah has debunked claims that, child marriage is common in the Ghanaian Muslim community.

Sheikh Ibrahim Nuamah says, Islamic in its entirety doesn't support child marriage and therefore it cannot be true that Muslim only practice it.

The issue of child marriage in some Zongo communities has become national discussion in recent times-with many people describing it as rampant but Sheikh Ibrahim says, those claims cannot be supported by figures.

Sheikh Nuamah was speaking at the 10th regional conference of the federation of Muslim women association of Ghana in Kumasi.

The conference was on the theme, "Empowering Muslim Women for Social Inclusion."

Leadership of the Federation of Muslim Women Association of Ghana has appealed to the Ministry of Zongo and inner cities affairs to include the activities of the federation into its work to empower the Zongo woman.

According to the federation's President in the region, Hajia Fatimat Yasmeen Appiedu, Women empowerment, education, and entrepreneurship have become major concern in recent time, hence the need for ministry to embrace them to their lives.

Hajia Yasmeen adds, the ministry support would complement the efforts of the federation to build a responsible Muslim woman.

Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah however calls for unity among the women.

He says, it is only when the women become united that, they would be able to strive for change.

The 10th Ashanti Regional conference of the Federation of Muslim Women Association of Ghana addressed issues of child welfare and how to effectively empower Muslim women for social inclusion.
