Islamic women raise GH¢52,000 to support university project

Afrancho (Ash), Aug. 18, GNA - An amount of GH¢52,000 was raised last Sunday by the women's wing of the Islamic Mission Secretariat to support the construction of the Mission's University at Duayaw-Nkwanta in the Brong-Ahafo region. Sheikh Ishak Nuamah, General Secretary of the Mission, who announced this at the closing session of the 13th annual conference of the women at Afrancho near Akumadan in the Offinso North District of the Ashanti region, said the money would be used to support the technical aspect of the project.

The theme for the three-day conference was "The Ideal Muslim Woman" and was attended by over 1,500 women. The Islamic Theologian praised the members for the contribution and hoped they would do more to support the programmes and activities of the Mission in its efforts to improve human development. He urged the organization to work hard, not only to satisfy the needs of members, but to enhance peace and harmony among themselves to attract non-Muslims women into Islam.

Mariam Nketia Suleman, Secretary to the organization said the wing was formed in 1996 to address the needs of members and their children. She said over the years the Association has involved itself in various activities notably were the provision of scholarship schemes for brilliant but need girls, establishment of basic schools and farming in various communities nationwide. Nana Abena Boatemaa, Queen mother of Afrancho, urged the women to lead an exemplary life worthy of emulation.
