The Kingdom Life Centre (KLC) Assemblies of God marked its fifth anniversary in grand style at Amrahia near Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region on Saturday, November 30, 2024.
The event, held at the church premises, was themed "CELEBRATING GOD'S GOODNESS TO SEND THE LIGHT."
It was a significant milestone for the church, reflecting on five years of spiritual growth, community impact, and unwavering faith in God’s guidance and provision.
Sermon
The East Adenta Secretary of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, Reverend John Obeng, who gave the sermon on behalf of the District Pastor, observed that some churches die out because their foundation was not built on God.
The sermon was titled, "How to Build a Church on a Firm Foundation."
Rev. Obeng said, "If you don't want yourself or your church to crash, then build it on God, as well as with love, care, sharing, and prayers, because that is the only way the church can stand in these challenging times."
Advice and Observations
A Financial Expert, Prof. John Bright Kobla Aheto, who was the special guest of honor, advised the head Pastor to continue believing in God, knowing that God will protect, guide, and direct his steps to move forward with the work of God.
A Retired Pastor and Ex-soldier, Rev. Prof. Lt. Col. (Retd) Vincent Norman Kodzo Setsoafia, for his part, hinted that KLC has come this far because their Senior Pastor took up the leadership of the church and turned things around.
"You have come this far by grace. You have every reason to celebrate your fifth anniversary and all of its accomplishments to the glory of God. This is a great milestone in your life as a thriving, visionary local church," he stated.
Ceremony
The Head Pastor of KLC, Pastor King David Avorgbedor recounted the humble beginnings of the church, the challenges it overcame, and the milestones it achieved over the years.
"We have come this far by God's grace coupled with hard work. Let us show our utmost delight in the Lord and everything that matters to Him. Also, let's continue to share the good news about Christ whenever we have the opportunity. Let's not stop sharing tracts and inviting people to church," he said.
The celebration featured a variety of activities, including a sermon, powerful praise and worship sessions, a recount of the church’s historical journey, performances by the church choir, and the symbolic cutting of the anniversary cake.
Local church leaders, Assemblies of God representatives, and special guests graced the occasion, offering prayers and well-wishes for the future of KLC Assemblies of God, Ghana.
Special recognition was given to individuals and groups who played pivotal roles in the church's establishment and growth, including church leaders, founding members, and volunteers whose dedication has helped shape the church's success.
Pastor Avorgbedor emphasized that gone are the days when churches only took from people; it is time for churches to also help by investing in people.
"I want to encourage everyone and churches to invest in people both spiritually and materially. As we will be voting soon, we are preaching peace, so let's all go and cast our votes peacefully, being assured that God will give us a good leader," he said.
Pastor David announced the projects the church intends to embark on over the next five years. These include acquiring land for a permanent place of worship, commencing the construction of an ultramodern auditorium, and supporting at least two people to pursue biblical training and church planting.
Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, Thomas A. Vuguse, noted that since the launch of the anniversary in March this year, a number of activities were executed including first float/tract evangelism, fun games and a get-together, Berakah praise and worship night, Sunday school workers' training, leadership conferences and training, community free health screening, and the second float/tract evangelism.
Background
The beginning of KLC Assemblies of God dates back to around 2016 when the Assemblies of God Campus Ministry (AGCM) from the Legon campus embarked on an outreach program near Tacoma Hotel with the intention of planting a church for Pastor Bernard.
The young church initially met on the Christian University Campus and later moved to a house behind Tacoma Hotel, meeting under a temporary canopy.
The Pastor, however, left the church for another assignment with the House of Love Assemblies of God, Tema Community 18. Rev. Richard Suglo later took over in 2017, but the church was ejected from its location, which shattered its initial efforts.
In 2020, Pastor King David from the House of Integrity Assemblies of God, Oyibi Bush Canteen, took over the church. He had just graduated from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (AGTS), South Campus, and started his probation with the mother church.
Just two weeks after he took over, the COVID-19 pandemic led to the closure of institutions, businesses, and churches for nearly three months. During the lockdown, Pastor King David introduced open-air preaching by renting out a container to purchase a portable, rechargeable public address system, which enabled him to start evangelism in the Amrahia Tollbooth community. This initiative has gradually established itself over the past five years.
