Kumasi, April 28, GNA - Right Reverend Dr Yaw Frimpong-Manso, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), has urged church leaders to come together to fight the growing indiscipline and lawlessness in the country= .. He said they have a responsibility to help restore the values of moralit= y and respect for law and order to transform the Ghanaian society. "As a nation, our walls of love and fellow-feeling, sound morals and identity, democratic principles and patriotism have broken, giving way to=
corruption and greed, tribalism, drug abuse, bribery and disrespect for t= he law, which should be the concern of all".
Right Rev. Dr Frimpong Manso was addressing the Maakro Congregation of t= he PCG in Kumasi during the dedication of a manse built for the resident minister. The two-storey building cost about GH¢180,000 to complete and was buil= t through the contributions of the church members. The moderator asked the clergy to be good examples in society, saying, t= hey should avoid acts and practices that contravened biblical tenets and principles. He described as unfortunate the situation where some pastors for th= eir own selfish gains had turned priesthood into a money-making venture and engaged in dubious activities - extorting money under the pretext of pray= ing for people and counselling services.
Rt. Rev. Dr Frimpong-Manso used the occasion to deny rumours that Minist= ers of the church had threatened to go on demonstration to demand an upward adjustment of their salary as carried by some Accra-based newspapers. He said the report was baseless and a lie adding that it was an attempt to bring the image of the church into disrepute.
He appealed to the media to shun sensationalism and peddling of falsehood. Rev. Ernest Odame-Asare, Minister in-charge of the Maakro Presbyterian Church, commended the members for building the manse and urg= ed them to contribute generously towards other development projects of the church.
