Let’s take The Gospel to the palace – Opuni-Frimpong

General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, has admonished pastors to reach out to the chieftaincy institutions in Ghana with the gospel of Jesus.

According to him, the church in Ghana and Africa as a whole has failed to extend its mission work to the doorsteps of traditional rulers.

“The church today is doing missionary work in the prisons, schools, hospitals, villages, markets, and corporate institutions. However, it has failed to extend its missionary work to the chieftaincy institution, especially the palaces,” he added.

Rev. Opuni-Frimpong made these remarks at the just ended All Ministers and Their Wives Conference of the Church of Pentecost at Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region.

He disclosed that, the chieftaincy institution has played an enormous role to the growth of the church in Ghana, adding that, it has been instrumental in the provision of land and security to many churches, especially during the colonial days.

Rev. Opuni-Frimpong further stated that, “majority of the people in the chieftaincy institutions are seeking for the support of pastors and Christians in general to provide them with spiritual and leadership support.”

To this end, he said the church must strategically position itself to reach out to the palaces just as any other mission field, adding that “there are Christians who are royals, and practice Christian values in their palaces”.

On his part, the Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Opoku Onyinah also encouraged his ministers not shy away from taking up roles in the chieftaincy institution if they are qualified for it.

He said, The Church of Pentecost has decided to take its missionary activities to the palaces, adding that, a Conference dubbed Royals Conference will be organized from June 10 – 13, 2014 at the Pentecost Convention Centre to bring royals and ministers together in fellowship.

Apostle Opoku-Onyinah made an altar call for ministers who are passionate about mission to the palace, and about seventy (70) ministers made commitment to undertake mission to the palace.
