Wa, March 21, GNA - The Association of the Local Council of Churches in the Upper West Region, on Friday donated a GH¢850 cheque to the Regional Hospital's Maternity Ward at Wa. Apostle Anthony Ekuban, President of the Upper West Local Council of Churches, who presented the cheque, said the amount was realized after three separate sermons held by the churches as part of the one week nationwide fasting and prayer declared for this year's Independence Day celebration.

He thanked the staff of the ward for working so hard to save lives and urged them to continue the good work in order to help reduce infant and maternal mortality rate in the region. Apostle Ekuban, who is also the Head Pastor of the Church of Pentecost in Wa, pledged their continuous support for the ward. Dr Chris Opoku Fofie, a gynaecologist at the hospital, who received the money on behalf of the ward, thanked the Council of Churches for the gesture and said the money would be used to help address some of the challenges facing the ward.

He said he was happy that efforts of doctors and nurses at the hospital were now been recognised by the public. Father Patrick Segkpeb of the Catholic Cathedral Administration, Wa offered a word of prayer for the management of the ward, the patients and the entire staff of the hospital.
