Men Of God Warned To Remain Neutral Ahead Of Ghana Elections

With barely three days for Ghana to go to the polls to elect the next president and its members of parliament, pastors and reverend ministers of God have been warned to remain neutral ahead of the elections.

According to Bishop James Obeng Nyantakyi, Founder and General Overseer of the Salvation House Chapel International, who issued the word of caution, neutrality is the hallmark of every minister of God so far as the church is concerned.

The respected bishop, who was speaking in an exclusive interview with modernghana.com, remonstrated that due to the selfish desires of some ministers of God, they deliberately use their office for their selfish interest.

He said the role of the clergy in this year's elections was very critical therefore any minister of God who would resort to taking sides and stands in support of any political party can mar the beauty of the elections and soil the reputation of the clergy.

“What do we see in our recent political times? Due to the selfish desires of some ministers of God, they deliberately use their office for personal gains,” he bemoaned, adding that “These are people who appear before the church and behind the pulpit as ministers of God but outside the church; they come into the scene as politicians.”

He said such calibre of pastors usually allow their emotions to rule their lives and this is what Jesus Christ, the son of God preached against bitterly.

“Jesus preached about this very bitterly and called such people HYPOCRITES and SELF RIGHTEOUS. In the book of Matthew 23:27-28, he stated; “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all unclean. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity,” (KJV),” the concerned Bishop quoted to buttress his argument.

He further indicated that as Ghana draws closer to the elections, no man of God should wallow himself in any political water whatsoever in his or her own interest.

“As soon as you took the call of God, you are to defend Jesus Christ and His second coming not any political party or politician. You are for Jesus and do not take the members for granted. Because of the anointing upon you, you speak as if you are the only man of God whom God speaks to.

Remember, the church is multi- party group, which has different opinions altogether hence your neutrality in this year's elections would do Ghana a lot of good,” Bishop James Obeng Nyantakyi emphasized.
