Men of God losing credibility due to election prophecies – Christian Council

The Christian Council of Ghana has expressed concern about the what is says is the eroding confidence Ghanaians have in Men of God in the country.

The reason for this, according to General Secretary of the Council Reverend Dr Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, is due to the endless prophesies about who will win the December 7 general elections.

He was reacting to prophecies by some prophets in the country who have predicted victory for both President John Mahama and the flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The most popular is the Founder and Leader of the Glorious Word and Power Ministry International, Rev Isaac Owusu Bempah.

Among others, the controversial man of God has prophesied that certain persons close to the NPP leader are planning to kill him.

His prophecies have been criticized by some Ghanaians and other men of God who accuse him of causing fear and panic.

In support, Rev. Dr. Opuni-Frimpong on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday indicated that such prophecies cannot be coming from God.

He explained that, God is not a two minded person to be predicting a win for both the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the NPP.

The Christian Council Secretary advised the Men of God to keep their prophecies to themselves since it has the tendency to create unreasonable tension in the country prior to the impending elections.

A man of God, he noted, should be neutral and objective in the discharge of his duty to serve as a mediator and not to affiliate themselves to a political party.

He called for religious tolerance and the need to respect one another's religion and avoid any tendencies that would mar the beauty of the country's democracy.

Rev. Dr. Opuni-Frimpong also appealed to the Electoral Commission (EC) to be fair and transparent in the discharge of their duties to gain public confidence and trust ahead of the elections.
