Bibiani (W/R), April 27, GNA- A five-day synod of the Methodist Church in the Tarkwa diocese on Thursday opened at Bibiani in the Western region.
The theme for the 23rd annual synod is "Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God" and is being attended by 18 circuits drawn from the diocese. Right-Reverend John A.Y. Adubah, Methodist Bishop of Tarkwa, who performed the opening ceremony, noted that media bashing had become popular lately, which politicians and business people had taken full advantage of.
He noted that the importance of the electronic and print media in shaping a society couldn't be overstated, "yet we seem to have ignored this area leaving a vacuum for the unrighteous to fill". Bishop Adubah emphasized that "We cannot complain of the lack of truth in the press if we are not willing to go to them carrying Jesus, who said "I am the way, the truth and the life". He stressed that the Lord's call upon mankind to "Seek first the Kingdom of God" was an onerous task.
"It demands that as we enter into all areas of society as Christians we will see the fulfillment of the Great Commission and millions of people will come into the Kingdom of God". He reminded Christians that it was very important to start cleaning up their personal lives since the Lord's stand against immorality should be firmly implemented to bring about a holy fear of the Lord. In a welcoming address, Mr Michael Boakye, Bibiani Circuit Steward of the Methodist Church, expressed his appreciation to the circuit for holding the synod after 13 years.
Goodwill messages were delivered by the Western Regional Minister, Mr A.E. Amoah, Mr Kingsley Adjei-Manu, Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District Chief Executive, Mr Christopher Addae, Member of Parliament for the area and Ogyeahoho Nana Yaw Gyebi II, Omanhene of Sefwi-Anhwiaso traditional area.
