Wa, April 27, GNA - Alhaji Abdul- Rashid Pelpuo, Member of Parliament for Wa Central Constituency, has advised Muslim youth to use their places of worship as centres for the acquisition of knowledge and not for breeding ignorance and violence. He said Islam enjoins human beings to love each other, therefore, the use of Islam by some people to kill others in the name of Jihad is alien to the religion and must not be countenanced by all true adherents of the faith.

Alhaji Pelpuo, who is the Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament, said this at Wa at the inauguration of the Upper West Muslim Youth Association.

The association, among others, seeks to foster unity among Muslim youth and enforce the teachings of the holy prophet of Islam in the young ones to strengthen their faith and encourage good morals through religious talks and forums at the schools. He urged the Muslim youth not only to concentrate on prayers but also look for other ways of cleansing their hearts and assemble to deliberate on fighting poverty and promoting the development of their communities.

The Deputy Majority Leader announced that he had increased his annual contribution to the Educational Development Fund for Muslim Youth in the region from GH¢300 to GH¢500. Alhaji Tamimu Zaid, a director at the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council, who represented the Regional Minister, advised Muslim parents not to shy away from sacrificing their comfort to fund the education of their children.

He said the youth should not allow themselves to be used to engage in activities that were inimical to the teachings and tenets of Islam.
