Muslim youth urged to eschew negative lifestyles

Kumasi, Sept. 18, GNA - Alhaji Ibrahim Abdul-Rahman III, the Moshie Chief in Kumasi, has advised Muslim youth to keep away from criminal and socially reprehensible acts.

He said they should distance themselves from armed robbery, lawlessness, disrespect for the elderly, narcotic drug addiction and prostitution to bring dignity and honour to themselves, family and their religion.

Alhaji Abdul-Rahman was speaking at the close of Ramadan prayers and reading of verses from the Holy Koran at a mosque attached to his palace at Allabar in Kumasi on Thursday.

He reminded Muslims that they had a unique role to play in nation building and the development of Islam and they should therefore work hard and lead upright lives. Alhaji Abdul-Rahman told them to use the Ramadan to pray for the leadership of the country so that they would have the courage to rule justly. Alhaji Gado Sulemana, a patron of the Nisau Mouminati (Islamic Men's and Women's Association) in the community, donated 50 copies of the Holy Koran for distribution to some elders at the meeting. He called on the Muslims to support the government in its efforts at speeding up the pace of the nation's socio-economic development.
